My Wed Deal is excited to announce our partnership with personal trainer, Meredith McClain, the owner of Meredith McClain Body, Inc., Meredith will be providing our readers with weekly fit tips on how to get in shape for their wedding.
Always an active girl, Meredith participated in dance, gymnastics and cheer leading in school. In her college years she maintained her desire for fitness through various group exercise classes and gyms. It was after Berkeley that she discovered her love for long distance running.
She says, “I think that is what I love about athleticism. I think to be human is to be an athlete. To be human is to be ambulatory in your life. Athleticism, fitness, wellness, whatever you want to call it, is for every human being on the planet. Just watch a marathon, or better yet, participate in one and you will see. There is something bigger inside all of our bodies that takes us out into the world. It may start with wanting a smaller waist or bigger pecs or ending your day with a calorie deficit, but to be fully alive in your body is to fully inhabit it. Relish its capacity for expansion. If the human body can expand to dress sizes to support 300 lbs and pants to fit a size 3XXL, then the human body can expand in the direction of a lower resting metabolic heart rate, muscles can be developed to burn fat while you are sleeping, and sweat can be your best detoxifier and cooling system for the biggest organ we have, the skin.”
Meredith will provide our budget savvy brides all the inspiration and tips they need to look fabulous for their wedding.
Check out our Fit Tips page for Meredith’s first post.

Yes you can! Kate Middleton did it, so why not? While not everyone loved her makeup, I think she would’ve still got the same response even if she hired a professional makeup artist to get it done for her. We all have different tastes. What matters is that you feel great and confident on your wedding day.
I must admit, I paid someone $100 to do my makeup on my wedding day three years ago. For some reason, it is a MUST do on a wedding day along with getting our hair and nails done. But guess what? I ended up bringing my own makeup to the salon and have her put those on me instead of her makeup from her kit. I wasn’t sure how her makeup is going to perform on me and my wedding day just isn’t the time for testing out new products. The only thing that I needed the makeup artist for on that day, is to put on fake (natural looking) lashes on me.
While I have no regrets hiring a professional to do my makeup since I looked fabulous on my big day, I would probably do my own if I was to get married again tomorrow knowing what I know now. Thanks to YouTube, I can finally put on fake lashes in a breeze.
There are tons of Bridal Makeup Tutorials on YouTube. It’ll give you lots of ideas and tips on how to achieve the look you want for your big day. Some of these beauty gurus on YouTube are professional makeup artists and for some, it’s just a plain old hobby.
Doing your own makeup on your big day is possible if you put the time and effort into it. These beauty gurus on YouTube weren’t born knowing how to put on an eyeshadow. They spent a lot of time to achieve the knowledge they know now. It’s all about practice, practice and practice.
A former bride,
This clip is from a hilarious movie, Coming To America. Another classic wedding movie about a King in search of his Queen. If you haven’t seen it yet, you just have to!
My favorite scene is when Prince Akeem (played by Eddie Murphy) is being presented with his queen to-be.

In addition to being very fun, a wedding signature drink is a creative way for brides and grooms to give their own personal twist to their special occasion.
This picture is from a wedding that I attended a couple weeks ago, and is a great example of how to use your wedding signature drink. The couple picked their favorite ingredients in a drink and chose a name that had special meaning for them.
Here are some questions from cocktail guru Jonathan Pogash of Wedding Cocktail Design and what he recommends as far as questions brides and grooms should ask as they are choosing their signature drinks.
• What are your favorite liquors and non-alcoholic ingredients in mixed drinks? Are there any liquor types and/or ingredients that you absolutely DO NOT want?
• What types of cocktails do you two enjoy drinking?
• Would you like the drink to match/complement your color scheme? If so, what is the color scheme?
• Does your wedding have an overall theme (Hollywood Glamour, Country Simple, etc.)?
• Do you have any ideas on a name for the cocktail? Oftentimes, it’s a combination of the couple’s name or something that relates to an interesting story about the couple (how they met, where they met, etc.).
• What is the location of your wedding? Time of day?
• Are you working with a caterer? If so, what is their name and contact info (so that we can coordinate with them and have the cocktail properly executed)
If you had a signature drink at your wedding, I would love to hear about it.
To make things a bit more fun we’ve decided to start “Fun Friday”, were every Friday the followers of our blog can expect some playful content, whether it’s funny or entertaining.
We will be starting this new “Fun-Friday theme” with one of our favorite movie wedding proposals of all-time. From an awesome movie: “The Wedding Singer”, Robbie’s proposal to Julia is one of a kind. Honestly what girl wouldn’t have wished for a proposal like that?!
And who could have ever forgot the line: “Don’t you talk to Billy Idol that way”. Love it!
Check it out and let me know what you think.
Picking the right father and daughter song can sometimes be hard. Think about asking dad what he likes, pick a song that he loves, and have fun. Frank Sinatra is always a good pick. His songs are not too slow and are easy to dance to, with a light sway back and forth that’s comfortable for dad and daughter.
Here are some more tips:
Unforgettable-Nat & Natalie Cole
How sweet it is to be loved by you-James taylor
You are so beautiful to me-Joe Cocker
What a Wonderful World-Louis Armstrong
The way you look tonight-Tony Bennet
My Girl- Temptations
And of course, my absolute favorite:
Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder.
What’s your favorite father and daughter song?
Lately I’ve seen a lot of couples with a wedding website. I think it’s very helpful in many ways, so I’ve put together a few reasons why I think an engaged couple should have a wedding website.
o Create something unique to you – Every couple is special and unique. Customizing your own site and adding your own personal elements will allow your guests to connect with you and learn things about you they never knew.
o Save time and money – If you pre-pay for the return of your RSVP cards, 100 stamps will cost you approximately $44, and that does not include the cost of the cards themselves. If you factor in the cost to purchase physical RSVP cards, you are looking at a total cost of about $400-$700 to accept RSVP cards from your guest. It doesn’t cost anything to do all of this online. Now it’s still a good idea to send out RSVP cards to some guests who might not be as tech-savvy, but for the most part, accepting RSVP’s online makes the process easier and less expensive.
o Manage all of your wedding details in one place – Wedding binders are a thing of the past. Today all of your wedding information can be stored and organized in one place, which is your site.
o Reduce your impact on the earth – A wedding website can certainly help you achieve a goal to be green by allowing you to communicate with your guests electronically.
Here are some sites you should check out for your wedding website:
The first dance is probably the biggest moment of the day for the couple. An interesting observation is that many couples want to get this moment over with quickly since they often feel uncomfortable being stared at by a couple of hundred people for three minutes.
The first dance shouldn’t be awkward. So why not have fun with it? The first dance song should be a hand picked song that has meaning to the couple. A great idea is to pick a fun and upbeat song that fits with the bride’s and groom’s personalities.
I attended a wedding this weekend where the couple had “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen as their first dance song.
Other wedding first dance songs:
The way you make me feel-Michael Jackson
Fun Stevie Wonder Songs
Ain’t that a kick in the head-Dean Martin
Love and Happiness -Al Green
Friday im in love -The Cure
Marry You- Bruno Mars

Where Weddings Are a Big Deal!
Brides and grooms are getting creative with their first dances, outside of the norm, even trying out a choreographed dance by having a flash mob. I found this clip from a wedding that I attended last year, where the couple did their first dance routine, then gave a speech and got cut off in a cued moment of their speech by having a flash mob come out and surprise their guests. What was so great about this is how the flash mob were in disguises as guests and wait staff. Everyone there was so surprised and enjoyed it soo much because the bride and groom kept it a secret from their guests.

I think this is a great and creative way for couples to surprise and entertain their guests.

My Wed Deal has now launched their landing page and offers budget savvy brides deals on every part of the wedding process, from wedding dresses and wedding cakes all the way to engagement rings and bachelorette party venues.
How it all started
One of My Wed Deal’s founders, Corey Parker, had to make sacrifices on his wedding day due to budget constraints. “I’ll never forget when my wife was looking for her wedding dress and out of financial frustration, she realized that we were not going to be able to afford all that she hoped for on her big day, she just started crying. I felt so bad since I knew that this was a special day for her and I wanted her to be able to have all that she wanted,” he says. This was the beginning of My Wed Deal. Corey and his partner Courtney thought of a way that brides can get all they want without making sacrifices.
By launching My Wed Deal, Courtney and Corey have made it possible for every bride to feel like a princess and get everything she wants, and a little more, for her dream wedding.

Yesterday we talked about different reasons for hiring a Dj at your wedding. This gave me the idea of starting a month long blog series, where we’ll give a breakdown of today’s wedding music trends and give brides everything that they need to know about choosing the ideal song for them and each one of their wedding formalities. We’ll go into details of each important song during your reception two times a week, starting tomorrow.
This is a fun and upbeat grand entrance song.
Stay tuned, and follow along…
• Live bands are very expensive and range between $2000 and $20,000.
• If you want today’s top 40 songs then you have to go with a DJ.
• Bands are limited to older hits and certain genres, like classic, rock, disco, and funk.
• Some wedding bands can only play one sound and have a hard time switching genres.
• With a DJ you can have your first dance to the song and artist that made you fall in love.
• The DJ is not only a Disc Jockey but he’s also an MC and a Coordinator.
• If hiring a band you’ll probably need to hire someone else to coordinate and make the announcements at the wedding since the lead singer is usually too busy fronting the band.
• Bands can sometimes be too loud for the space they are playing at. With a DJ you can simply turn down the music.
• You have to make sure the band can fit in the space where your wedding reception will be held.
• A Dj can squeeze into any space.
At the end of the day it’s very important to hire someone you feel you can trust. So I say do your research and follow your instincts.
I recommend checking out Gumbo Entertainment. They’re big on bringing that personal touch to couples and creating an amazing experience.
Many women have had their wedding day planned ever since they were little girls. When their big day comes along they are so excited and eager to get their dream wedding that they forget to include their fiance in the planning process.
A couples wedding day is a start of their union and partnership together, and it’s therefore important to have fun with it and function as a team. Many women might think that men aren’t as interested in the wedding planning process and therefore take over the situation. For a man it’s not about planning the wedding per se, it’s about being included and being able to help out that makes a difference.
So ladies out there, don’t forget to include your fiance in the planning process. Even if he doesn’t show much interest, just by asking him for advice and help will make him feel important to you and to your marriage.

Photo booths are almost common now at weddings. The majority of the time they are being used the entire night, and mostly by the guys. While the ladies are on the dance floor, the guys are in the booth, putting on costumes and acting. The props help people loosen up, and people will take photos together who probably wouldn’t have taken them otherwise.
I saw a Flip book photo booth once which was really cool. Guest are invited inside the sudio to make a short video clip. You take a picture, dance around, send kisses, and you are instantly in a flip book. When wedding guest are in a “party mode” they just love jumping in front of the camera and the flip books make really fun and entertaining memories afterwards. The flip books were without a doubt the funnest pictures from the entire wedding.
If you really want to make your wedding reception even more entertaining and memorable, you should have a flip book studio at your event

I was at a great wedding this weekend. A cool thing about this wedding was that the entire wedding was Cocktail Party style. There was no formal sitdown dinner or buffet- which cuts tons of money on food. Just finger foods being passed around and a very small salad bar if people wanted to eat something light. Instead of having an open bar, the guests were served beer and wine, and champagne for the toast. The setting was very loose, fun and informal. There were no assigned seats, instead everyone mingled, had fun and got to know each other.
I’ve seen lots of weddings like this, esp in the south, since it’s cheaper and makes it possible for the bride and groom to invite their entire generation of family. Here in LA the weddings are usually very formal and the schedule is set in stone. I could see Cocktail Weddings making it big in Los Angeles. They are fun, easy going, with a great atmosphere and setting. In addition, for brides on a budget, a cocktail wedding is a great way to go.
It’s no secret that cupcakes have become a trend at weddings. I actually love the idea of having cupcakes instead of one large wedding cake. There are many advantages of having a cupcake wedding cake. Not only are they cute and interesting, they also tend to be less expensive. A large selection of cupcakes offers the guests a variety and something that will fit everyone’s taste. The cupcakes can be presented on a buffet, where the guests can pick their favorite cupcake themselves. Another option is to have a more elegant type of presentation where the caterer serves the cupcakes individually with a cup of fruit
I know that many couples don’t want to let go of that beautiful moment of cutting the first piece of cake together. Listen to this, you don’t have to. A great idea is having a mini 6-inch cake for the bride and groom to cut so they can experience that special moment.
I might sound strange and out of the ordinary to have food trucks at a wedding. The truth is that more an more couples that are getting married are jumping on board with the idea. Foodtrucks are the new thing, especially in Los Angeles. Anything you feel like eating can be delivered through a food truck to almost any location. In addition to the convenience, they are just so much more fun. They are cool, hip and of course affordable. Traditional caterer costs are crazy high. Couples can hire three food trucks for a third of one caterer’s price.
The Grilled Cheese Truck
There are endless options to choose between in LA, and they all tweet their location where they arrive. You can follow them @FoodTruckLA. Kinda cool right?

At more and more more weddings bridesmaids switch in to flip flops once the dancing starts. As we all know flip flops aren’t the most comfortable shoes to be dancing in for hours. I recently came across the Tieks, and thought they were perfect for weddings.
They are foldable, lightweight ballet-like flats that are cushioned in the back. Each pair comes with a compact pouch that holds the Tieks when folded in the bridesmaids’ purse, and a reusable tote for the heels. Kinda cool right? On top of that, they come in really cute colors.
They are so cute that even the bride can wear them.
